Spring/Summer Uniform

So if you see me out and about in the next few months I will probably be wearing my new uniform!! I am crazy about jumpsuits! They are easy, super comfortable, and I have seen a bunch of really cute ones out there right now!

I have purchased three! A dressy one as well as two that could go date night/ girls night out or casual during the day depending what shoes and accessories you pair with them!!

The dressy one:
I have a few weddings coming up this Spring and Summer. This dressy version got some use at a wedding just a couple weeks ago. I actually bought this one last year from Juicy Couture, they must have loved it as much as me because they did it again this year with a different fabric. Pretty close though! I wore it to the wedding with nude peep toe pumps and carried small gold clutch but I have worn it with wedges to a baby shower and it worked too!

last years (the one I own)                                               this years version here

The date night/ girls night out one:
I figured I could wear it with flat sandals during the day and fun wedges at night! I found this at Zou Zou Boutique here in Orlando. Fifteen Twenty is the label. We are going to Paris in June to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! I know it is months away but I am super excited so of course I had that trip in mind when I bought this! One piece, travels easy, plus you look put together without a whole lot of fuss!

                                                             Fifteen Twenty Jumpsuit

Last but certainly not least because this one has already gotten tons of use! The shorts romper! Splendid makes it so the fabric is super comfy! It feels like your wearing pajamas but you most certainly don't look like you are. I wear it most with flat sandals, a pair of tan Tory Burch ones, during the day but you could dress it up if you wanted! I love it with the booties like the model has on. I will definitely be wearing it like this!

                                                                Splendid Romper

Here are a few more options I love, if you are looking! I hope you love them as much as I do! Bloomingdales.com has these and many more! Happy shopping!

Gentleman's Mule

 Gentleman's Mule

As my 4 year old nephew Kingston would say, "it's the freakin weekend people!" To King that means he gets to play video games to me that means let's have a fun drink!

My parents are coming over tonight for dinner and this is what I am making them. My dad is a total foodie and restaurant consultant with impeccable taste! I call him for drink recipes most of the time so my favorite thing is to make him something I discovered.

If you saw my last post I shared those gorgeous copper mugs we ordered. I figured I could not show you those mugs and not share what to fill them with! So here it is:

Gentleman's Mule
1.5 oz. Gentleman's Jack Whiskey
1oz. Tuaca Vanilla Citrus Liqueur
4.5 oz Gosling's Ginger Beer
Couple dashes of Orange Bitters
Lime wedge to garnish
Served over ice

Cheers!!!

Much Weekend Love,

Products I LOVE...things that make me SMILE!

I have avoided this space for well, too long. The truth is I was steering clear because I have been working through some things in my own life that felt too personal to share. I tend to over share, so in order to avoid a vulnerability hangover, I just stayed away. I have been on a personal journey and it feels great.

Even though I haven't been blogging I have still been living, loving life, dating my incredibly handsome husband, being a momma to two little lovies, and finding new things and products that make me smile!

I love sharing things I find and products I am into with the people I care most about. So in no particular order here are some fun things that I am loving these days!

Tom Ford lipstick-
I  saw this months ago but really needed another lipstick like a hole in my head but after a couple months of resisting, I finally broke down and bought it and I am obsessed. Ohh and I can't help sing the Jay-Z song every time I wear it because the lipstick is the only Tom Ford thing I own! I don't pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford. Ohh come on you know you would too! It is totally creamy and dreamy!! I almost need a new one because I keep telling all my friends to try it and I wear it everyday!

Shit Just Got Real scarf-
This is so relevant in so many situations however the first image that came to my head was a new born baby swaddled in this. First night home from the hospital maybe?!? An incredible friend of mine gave this to me as a gift and when my cousin and dear friend found out she was pregnant with her 3rd I couldn't order it fast enough! It is just so good! Covetedthings.com if you want one.

Surfing-
It started a couple months back. I dropped the kids at school, met up with some girls I used to wakeboard with, and we headed to the beach for a fun little session. Most of us have young kids and haven't surfed as much since having them. We were hilarious hooting, hollering, and cheering each other on. It was such a fun day! In January I decided to make it a priority to get to the ocean this year. The fun thing about making this resolution in January is that I needed a new wetsuit! Perfski.com always hooks me up!

Turbans-
Taylor and I bought a few cute ones that we share but she definitely looks way cuter than I do in them!

This one my friend Lindsey made! She has a darling blog she just started! Lindseykirkland.com. If you have a little girl she is doing a bonnet giveaway in honor of her little's 1st birthday! Pretty stinkin' cute! Also, top knot turban tutorial went up on her blog couple days ago!

Mini White Chucks-
I wear my white converse every other day and I love them but what is better than white chucks...mini's!!!

East End Market-
If you know me at all you know, I love good food and I care a lot about what is in the food I feed my family. I have always cared but we are really making an effort to eat as much real, whole food as we can. The fewer the ingredients the better. I got started by just reading the labels and ingredients in the products that I buy all the time and replacing them with real foods. Pancake mix was the first item I tackled in my pantry. This new market is incredible! It is basically like a permanent  local farmers market with incredible vendors and such fun finds! We love SkyeBird for a juice or salad in a mason jar. These kids love green juice!

Thai food-
Making it...eating it...I am into it all. Red curry especially. My little man is totally into it with me! In an effort to teach my son that there is so much more to lunch than mac n' cheese we have been going to a little Thai place by our house. He is in preschool so I pick him up at noon and we go on a lunch date a couple days a week. He gets Jasmine tea and Pad Thai and we chat about all the goings on in his sweet little world.

Tamahra's Secret-
I have actually used these facial products since I was about 15 (they have an incredible acne line). I have gone in and out of using them but I always end up going back. I just really love my skin when I use them. They have the most amazing 2 hour facial, they make all their own products and they have absolutely no chemicals in them. Your skin feels luxurious! Tsecret.com

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dry Spun Finish-
On of my very best friends owns Alchemy the hair salon ( if you want amazing hair this is where you go- alchemyorlando.com) and I have literally sat in her chair since I was 12 years old. She gave this to me as a gift and it is my favorite hair product in years! It gives my hair great volume! Paired with the thickening mousse this has been my got to for an evening out.

Last but certainly not least, Gentleman's Mule! We love a restaurant in downtown Winter Garden called Tasting Room. They serve food tapas style and they have this wonderful drink! After making them a few times at home without a copper mug we decided we must order some mugs for the house! How gorgeous are these?!? It also keeps it fantastically cold!

I hope you found something fun! Until next time. I promise it won't be so long!

Much Love,

Lauren

What Kids Love

Taylor was asked a few months ago to wakeboard for a video for the Family Fun magazine website! It was her first ever photoshoot as a very new rider. She did awesome and had a blast doing it. Ryan Marshall did and incredible job with her and the video turned out darling. A couple of our favorite little friends made a debut as well.

Lots of Love!

Tiny Dancer

This week I had to email Taylor's ballet teacher to let her know she is not going to be taking class anymore. She has started swimming and wakeboarding and really wants to try gymnastics as well. In an attempt not to crazy over schedule her life we decided she had to give up ballet for now. I couldn't believe how sad I was. It seems like just yesterday this precious little thing was getting ready for her first dance class ever!
We were both giddy with excitement as it was her first thing ever doing away from me! She was only 2 and half. I remember being so excited to get her all ready for class. My mom, Taylor, and I went and pick out tap shoes and ballet shoes. My Nana used to buy my dance shoes for me so my mom wanted to pass on that tradition! The day of her first class I was so excited putting her hair in a bun, getting her into tights and a little leotard and of course taking pictures. I was so caught up in all the excitement that I totally goofed up the time of class. I thought it started at 4:45pm. It was really from 4:00 to 4:45pm. Whoops! So we show up for her very first class right as it is ending. Tay stood looking through the glass her eyes welling up with tears.  I felt horrible. I couldn't believe we missed it.  Seriously, I felt like the biggest failure as a mom. I had no way to fix it except try not to cry with her, promise her we would be extra early the following week, and take her cute little pink butt home to tap dance and twirl in her new shoes with me on the tile in our kitchen.

Every Wednesday for the next two years she would be overjoyed when I would tell her she had dance that day. She loves dancing and she made the most darling little friends.

There is always one stubborn dancer in the group!

I loved how it helped her build confidence. I loved watching the joy in her face.
I hope she will continue dancing long after any classes. I hope she will dance in the kitchen when no one is watching or everybody is watching just because it makes her happy!  I hope one day she will take a formal dance class again but I mostly feel sad because I can't believe how fast the time has flown and to think she is moving onto something else makes her feel so grown up. We have had such a monumental step in her going to preschool and I feel like everyday I pick her up, thankfully at noon! She seems older and wiser. Part of it makes me so happy because I love seeing her develop, but truthfully another part of me feels scared. Have I cherished the moments enough?? Have I been present enough? Have I enjoyed it enough?!? This is a good reminder to do just that!

Lots of Love

Catching up

So, I don't normally make New Year's resolutions but I did make one this year...to catch up on my blog. I have been writing posts on my phone for months and life has felt too crazy to actually get it up on my blog. So I am commiting to get these posts up in the next couple weeks. I'm ok if the only people who ever read it is my mom and my hubs. I think its therapeutic and I hope I will look back years from now and cherish these little memories. Here's to catching up!

Lots of Love

Hero

We have had a wonderful June full of vacation, our 8th wedding anniversary, and JD's 3rd birthday! I will catch up on all those posts, eventually.

We also had a sad sad day when we lost our sweet dog Hero.

Tears our pouring down my face as I write this. If you  have a dog you know how much they become a part of your family and our house feels really empty without him.

He started out as Jon's dog! Just him and Jon. Jon actually rescued him from a shelter just in time.  I truly believe in so many ways Hero rescued Jon. Jon and Hero faced some of Jon's darkest days together and Hero was a faithful and loyal friend. He was there licking Jon's tears and listening intently. You know the way, with their head cocked sideways and ears perked, hanging on every word!

When Jon and I got married, I totally cramped Hero's style. He suddenly had to sleep on the floor on a dog bed instead of in bed with Jon. He took a while to come around and forgive me.
I used to tell him to do something or call him and he would just stare at me with that look like who do you think you are?!?! He eventually decided I was here to stay and truly became our family dog.

Hero was the first to greet our babies when they came home from the hospital. I will admit when Taylor was born I had huge anxiety all the way home about how he would react to the new baby. He jumped up on our bed gave her one good sniff and that was that. They were instant friends! He used to sit by her pack in play when she was a newborn and alert me to every noise she made.

When JD came home we had given him 14 months to get used to babies being around so when JD came home Hero just gave him one solid wet lick on his newborn head. I guess that sealed the deal. They were buds from that point on. Plus, he finally figured out by now that babies drop tons of food all over the floor, so he decided they weren't so bad after all.

Hero really did have a full full life and he was up to his regular sandwich stealing antics right up to a couple weeks ago.

I will miss his million nudges a day to go in and out the back door and he always seemed to be laying right in your path where we would always trip over him.  I will miss the way he would sit at the top of he stairs waiting for Jon to get home. He would sleep there all night if Jon was out of town protecting me and the kids. He was so loyal. He made me feel safe.

It is hard to say out loud and admit but we did feel like we failed him the last few years. We were so wrapped up in the kids we took him for granted. Our hearts are heavier because of this.

Hero developed bone cancer and it was deteriorating  his spine causing him to no longer walk and causing him to be in tons of pain. Jon pretty much carried him everywhere the last week of his life. Once we realized how bad off he was and how much he was hurting we felt the best thing for him was to let him go. It was the hardest decision and we still feel unsure about it. Of course we wanted Hero to be with us as long as possible but we also loved him so much and never wanted him to experience so much pain. It feels gut wrenching because as animals they have no say. You make every decision for them and they can't tell you how they are feeling.

Taylor walked in from a nap in the midst of us having to make a horrible decision and we were pretty wrecked. We talked the kids through what was happening. Taylor being four totally grasped it right away and was pretty devastated. She made him a sweet picture of our family which of course included both Hero and JR ( our Jack Russell Terrier) and laid it on  his paws telling him how much she loved him and what a sweet boy he was. A couple times throughout the day she would warn us saying "I think I am going to get really sad again".  We talked lots about how it's ok to be sad and it just means we loved Hero so much. We told her we could reminisce about funny stories and mischievous things Hero did whenever we missed him. She clarified before she went to bed that "Hero won't be here in the morning ever again,  right mom??" We assured her his back wasn't hurting anymore and that made her feel better.

JD did not understand until we got to the car and Hero wasn't with us. JD kissed him lots and told him goodbye at the vet so we thought he got it. But, we got in the car and Jon came back without Hero he sobbed the whole way home because Hero wasn't with him and he needed to give him more kisses.

JR our little Jack Russell is a lost little soul. He spent the first couple days looking for Hero. They were a mismatched couple but they were best buddies. JR has never known life without Hero and we are just hoping he is ok. For now he is sticking really close to us. Pretty much following us everywhere.

This experience has been such a  heartache and I am so thankful we have our  little family to love on each other as we go through this. I keep thinking it will start to feel normal at some point. But, even this morning quite a few days later our house feels off. Eerily quiet. It makes me sad.

We are going to miss our big red dog, our grumpy old man, our rut row. So glad we loved him and he loved us!

Thank you God for teaching us things we could have only experienced through our loyal, faithful, furry friend.
